Description

Lotus Esprit S3 1981, a rare original example of this classic mid-engine sports car from the world famous British F1 car manufacture. Along with its BBS/Mahle wheels, impressive calypso red paintwork & black half leather interior, it frequently turns heads. The S3 Esprit was introduced in the spring of 1981 & improving on the previous S1, S2, S2.2 models by combining the chassis & running gear of the Turbo model with the normally aspirated 2.2ltr engine, therefore making the car tougher & more reliable. First registered on the 1st August 1981, it is now 43 years old & exempt from road fund licence & MoT. The current mileage is 70300. I have owned my cherished Esprit since 1988 & have always sought to keep it as original as possible, travelling many trouble-free miles in her. It is, at present, stored in a dehumidified facility with its battery on constant trickle charge (photos of her in the storage facility). She had a major engine and ancillary equipment overhaul in 2017, this includes a new stainless-steel exhaust (invoices to show), with less than 1000 miles clocked up since then. The original exhaust back box can be supplied with the car. I have a great deal of paperwork for this car that shows the work that has been done along with its original handbook, Lotus parts manual 1981-1987 & Lotus maintenance notes/service manual 1980-1987. All paperwork is available for inspection by arrangement. The outside paintwork & bodywork is in good order (especially for a car of this age) as I have always covered it & kept it garaged hence it still has a great lustre. On the rear bumper there is some flaking of the black paintwork around the Lotus embossed lettering, there is also some slight corrosion on the BBS/Mahle wheels which would benefit from a re-spray, the wheels are generally in good condition. It used to have an original Lotus electric aerial which had to be replaced with a manual version as this type of aerial is no longer available (the broken aerial is supplied with the car & can be repaired). The inside of this vehicle is original & typically 80's with its black half leather & velour. The drivers' seat does have some wear but could be rectified. The original red carpets are in good condition. With the driving position low & the instrument binnacle that wraps around & the steering position, you can certainly feel its Formula 1 heritage.
