Description

2000 S1 Lotus Elise in metallic green. Beige leather interior and green soft top. 66,000 miles in excellent mechanical condition, full service history and has had major service including the cam belt. 7k spent in the last 3 years, 6 months MOT and HPI clear. Totally standard car, exceptionally well cared for including a recent service, new brakes, refreshed suspension, complete exhaust system, refurbed wheels and tyres. Extensive file of invoices and paperwork including old MOTs and original sales invoice. Owners manuals and 2 sets of keys. With the Elise now out of production and its electric replacement shaping up to be an inevitably quite a different proposition, it's easy to look back fondly on the original incarnation, which retrospectively became known as the Series 1. With a low kerb weight enabled by its bonded aluminium chassis and a peppy 1.8 litre K Series engine that didn't need to be super powerful to deliver useful performance, for many it was the perfect modern sports car. Subsequent revisions added a little more sophistication to the penalty of some extra weight but the essential recipe was maintained throughout the car's 25 year or so life span. The classic status of the Series 1 is already assured and will therefore represent an excellent investment. The Julian Thomson-penned Series 1 Elise entered production in September 1996. Thanks to its deliberately low kerb weight, it was able to accelerate from 0-60mph in a supercar humbling 5.8 seconds, despite the relatively modest power output of 118bhp from its Rover K Series engine. A markedly low centre of gravity ensured the road-holding of this mid-engined two-seater was equally impressive. The car's contemporary construction comprised a hand-finished fibreglass body mounted to a bonded extruded aluminium chassis. The Elise name was inspired by Elisa, the granddaughter of Romano Artioli, who was the chairman of both Lotus and Bugatti at the time of the little Lotus' launch.
