Description
1997 Elise S1 in New Aluminium. This is my 3rd S1, purchased in July 2019 and which turned into a lockdown project. In September 2019 the alternator belt failed and I was left stranded at a roundabout on a B road in Hertfordshire when another Elise owner was kind enough to tow me out of the way. That short tow was the last the rusted front tow post could handle and over lockdown I removed the front clam in order to change the tow post to a stainless one. Every single job led to something else that needed doing - the clam bolts were all rusted solid (one came out without needing to be cut), the bonnet hinge bolts were rusted and needed swapping to stainless and realigning, the headlight brackets were rusted, the radiator, the ARB.... the car was taken apart bolt by bolt and put back together again with stainless nuts, bolts and screws that should see it through more than the next 20 years - a sympathetic restoration as I think Lotus would approve. Please see the spread sheet I worked to - anything in green is complete, anything in yellow has been purchased but not yet fitted. When everything was back together again the car was transported to Gav at Unit 4 to check over my work and do a full geo. Last month the car was with Simon at Classic Modern Sports for a full 'C' service. I have invoices for everything including all new suspension arms, bushes, joints, Nitron (street series 2) dampers, original Lotus track rod ends, refurbished Stack, front hinge bracket, door hinge bushes and housings, handbrake grip, driving lights and adjusting plates, window stud carriers, driving light protectors, rear screen seal, silicone rad hoses, Goodridge brake lines, boot box hinge, aluminium radiator and fan, Elise-shop toe link kit, handbrake cable and equaliser, headlamps re-silvered, seats and sill covers re-trimmed in Porsche studio check fabric, battery, EliseParts OEM spec front uprights, ducted under tray, new navy hood, honestly too much to list, but all recorded. Massive parts package if wanted - a second set of refurbed alloys (primary set on new Yokohama AD08RS's) with old (but legal) Toyo Proxes, a set of Toyo R888R semi-slicks, outdoor cover, steering rack (not that it's needed), dash parts, door seals, headlight covers and goo, lock set, wheel bearings, Momo QR wheel, wheel badges, original black leather seats and much more. All the car needs to be perfect is paint; it's presentable but is stone chipped (the front is like a matt finish) and has some cracking. Next MOT due 27/10/2024, Silver, 4 owners, £20,000
