Description

This MGBGT was made in May 1973 and is currently on the original 'L' number plate it was issued with when new, the cherished 5422 MG number plate is on a DVLA Retention Document and is available as a separate purchase if interested. The car was purchased in 1978 with 18,000 miles from the original owners and was used as my Mum's daily driver until 1984 when it had 48,000 miles and taken off the road. It was stored in my parent's garage until my dad had the time to take on an extensive upgrade in 2015 that lasted for two years. The car had very little rust at all, and my dad only replaced the sills as he was a perfectionist. The project evolved to touch every part of the vehicle which included a fast road build of the original engine that gave the best improvement in mid-range torque by an acknowledged engine builder. He swapped the original 4 speed gearbox for a new 5 speed Ford Sierra gearbox. The original front suspension was changed out to a better handling coil over A arm type suspension. The rear axle was completely rebuilt by a reputable axle shop. An electric fan and electronic ignition completed the 'modern car' driving improvements that my dad wanted to include. He had a local approved MGOC coachworks professionally prepare and then finish the body in a light metallic green upper over the same but new original Mallard Green lower. He put a set of Minilite wheels and Continental Contact 175 tyres on the car, The inside has tan leather front seats, and the rear seats have a custom lockable secure box mounted on the same bolts. In total there are receipts for almost 23K for all of the parts and work that my dad paid for during this extensive project. In 2017, 2018 and 2019 my parents were avid participants of many MGOC treasure hunt type events. The car has covered 10,200 miles since the new engine and significant improvements. My Dad far preferred to drive the car than show the car although they did pick up some awards for the condition of the car at some of the events. My Dad passed away in 2022 and we have come to the realization that it is better to have the car enjoyed by an enthusiast than to be stored in the garage unused. As mentioned, the car has had the registration returned to the original 'L' number plate that it was issued with in May 1973. The car has never been in any accidents. If you are looking for a 1973 car in immaculate condition that has some tasteful modifications to be a viable daily driver this could be the car for you. Next MOT due 02/05/2019, Green, 3 owners, £9,750
