Description

I bought this awesome beast about a year ago with 57k recorded miles as a retirement present to myself. But after what has turned out to be more of an extended holiday, I've had an offer I can't refuse to return to my former profession which means back to 30k + miles pa. I don't really want to wind this rare car round to 100k, given its collectability. Now on 65166.The first thing I did was to replace all the discs and pads and then sent it to a local independent for a full service including brake fluid change and Haldex/Transfer Box service because although the service book is fully stamped, one doesn't take chances. They also spotted a rear driveshaft gaiter which was replaced. There is a box with oils and a few spares (like another driveshaft gaiter which wasn't needed)Then garaged over winter after a trip to the MOT station. Noting the (new, unused) spare is on a 17" rim I picked up another 4 so I could equip with a set of winter tyres in autumn 2024. These rims are included in the sale.I spent ages looking for a relatively 'simple' one with as few electrics and computers as possible (less to go wrong) and turned up this example which hasn't a sunroof or electric seats or an over complex dash display. Everything works just fine. Last week the right rear window hesitated so I swapped the regulator with a new Swedish part from Saabtech. The aircon I usually switch off but it's fully operational and very chilly. Heated seats fine. The full handbook from the supplying dealer all present and the car's still on the original branded plates. After a diet of diesel Mercs for the last decade the performance is in a different league although I've never really fully extended it. 4000rpm is about my lot. The car inspires huge confidence in the wet or on slippery roads; it just grips and is totally unflustered. I'm taking a fair hit on the price which I paid especially when the services and preventative maintenance I've done are factored in, but that's what has to be done with a rare and collectible car. Next MOT due 06/12/2024, Black, 4 owners, £7,500
