Description

The SEAT Toledo is the latest model to join the Spanish manufacturer's range, and the company has high hopes for this, its latest mediumsized five-door. SEAT will be hoping that the Toledo can help dent the sales figures of popular established hatchbacks like the Ford Focus while pinning back newer entries in to this market such as the Volvo V40. Based on the same platform as the new Skoda Rapid, SEAT claims its version will offer customers the elegance of a coupe with the versatility of a hatchback. While it may have the appearance of a saloon, this latest version of the Toledo comes with a large, wide-opening rear hatch. As is the norm with SEAT products, it will come with a choice of a number of different petrol and diesel engines already available in the Volkswagen Group. These include 1.2- and 1.4-litre TSI petrol engines, with power ranging from 74bhp to 120bhp. The Ecomotive petrol option will produce emissions as low as 116g/km to help cut costs. The petrol models will be offered with five- or six-speed manuals but the 1.4-litre will come with a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The diesel offering is a 1.6-litre with a power output of 104bhp, while an 89bhp option will be available later on. The Ecomotive diesel model is the greenest in the range with CO2 emissions of 104g/km.Don't expect anything other than excellent SEAT Toledo safety levels. Like its stablemate, the Skoda Rapid, the SEAT Toledo has achieved impressive results in European crash tests. The Euro NCAP safety body has awarded the Toledo five stars overall. Standard safety kit includes ABS, ESP, driver and front-seat passenger airbags, head airbags, side airbags for the front seat passengers, seatbelt reminder for front seat passengers, fuel line cut-off on collision, child seat fittings on the rear seat, headlight levelling and daytime running lights. In terms of bootspace the Toledo will be tough to beat. With 550 litres of available luggage space, you can't complain, but you'll have an even more cavernous loadbay in front of you when you fold the rear seats down. It's not a completely flat loadbay however, because the rear seatbacks leave a step. Official stats tell you that there's a total of 1, 490 litres available but since a test with water is impractical, it's fair to say that it'll easily accommodate four or five sets of golf clubs.Cabin quality on the Toledo has improved massively but it's still not what you would call classy. If you are looking for a car with decent seats, a compliant ride and a pleasant cabin environment you won't go far wrong with this car SEAT Toledo comfort levels are very acceptable. Another bonus is that the seats are supple, with enough lateral support to stop you sliding about when you are cornering at speed. There's a wide range of adjustment for the driver and the standard height-and-reach-adjustable steering wheel means you can get a decent driving position without too much faffing about.
