Here is our well-maintained wheelchair adapted VW Caddy Maxi C20 Life TDI, with the best 2.0 TDI engine (we were advised to avoid the 1.6 like the plague). Such a good drive, with a nice six-speed manual gearbox; it's well built and reassuring. Yes, these are more expensive than equivalent Peugot and Citreon vans, but that's for good reason. There's no comparison in our view. // This van features an excellent Brotherwood WAV conversion, with a lowered floor. The wheelchair passenger sits not quite level with the second row, with plenty of storage space behind. There is a tailgate ramp, which is very easy to raise and lower, tie-down straps and a winch (with a remote control). // The front tie-down straps attach prior to loading and are held on a ratchet, whether loading manually or using the winch. The slimline passenger seats in the second row next to the wheelchair user are surprisingly comfortable and no problem on longer journeys (unlike with some adaptations). // There are several useful cubbies including the overhead bin, the second row footwells (see photo) and on the dashboard. // Heated front seats (every vehicle should have them!) // Upgraded Alpine INE-W925R "Advanced Navi Station" with CD player, DAB, Bluetooth, etc. // There is a reversing camera but full disclosure, it glitches and is not 100% reliable.
