Description
Morris Minor Traveller 1968 1098cc
I have recently recommissioned this car, being only the third owner since new. During the renovation process the engine has been reconditioned, fitting new crank shaft bearings and con rod bearings, new piston rings and a new oil pump and water pump. The cylinder head had already been converted to take unleaded fuel. The valves were as new and only needed grinding in. The condition of the engine, when stripped down, was in very good order, with very little wear. It now starts easily and runs very well. The clutch has been renewed . The gear box required no work at all apart from an output oil seal and consequently all four gears work fine. The whole of the braking system has been renewed including master cylinder, wheel cylinders, brake shoes and brake pipes, sparing no expense. The fuel tank has been refurbished with new sender unit and new fuel pump.
When I bought the car the bodywork was quite reasonable but there was some fading to the paintwork so a complete repainting has restored the car to its original colour, Trafalgar Blue. Underneath the car it is sound and all vulnerable areas have been cleaned and painted for protection. All of the chrome work has been renewed including the hubcaps (not alloy). The wheels have been shot blasted and powder coated and they are fitted with four new, high quality tyres.
A new battery has been fitted with a four year warranty and an accompanying receipt.
All the lighting system has been replaced with new parts.
Most of the interior trim has been replaced and renewed including headlining, door cards, rear passenger arm rest trims, new fitted carpets throughout and the rear luggage compartment has been completely re trimmed.
The woodwork of the car was replaced some twenty years ago and has been preserved very well, there are no signs of rot or soft wood anywhere. The patina of the woodwork can be described as beautiful.
There are receipts dating back to the nineties, more recently amounting to several thousand pounds and I have spent many hours and significant amounts of money to achieve the condition that the car is in today.
Sometime in its history the car has obviously had a replacement speedometer so the mileage is uncertain. However, the condition of the engine suggests that it may be somewhere between 60,000 and 70,000 miles.
This car receives lots of attention wherever it goes, it isn't concourse standard but nevertheless it is in superb condition.
