Description
There is a full Toyota dealer service history since new, and so it's still under manufacturer warranty, which can be extended until 2030. The most recent was in March 2025 including a Hybrid health check which extends the warranty on the expensive high voltage battery to 2035.
I purchased the RAV4 two years ago, as an 'Approved Used" car from a local Toyota dealer. It had one previous, local owner.
DRIVING
It's just like driving a standard petrol car with an automatic gearbox. There's no need to plug the car in to charge the battery. The car computer automatically charges it by recycling power when slowing down, or using spare power from the engine. The dashboard display shows that the computer seamlessly switches between the engine, front and rear electric motors, according to the conditions. At low speeds it typically runs electric-only, but all three can work together for quick acceleration. There are extra buttons for EV and 4 wheel drive modes, but I've never needed them.
ECONOMY
The car has averaged over 50mpg around town and about 44mpg on the motorway, and so the refuelling range is around 500 miles.
DRIVING ASSISTANCE
The main dashboard screen displays a rear camera when reversing, and there are front and rear ultrasonic sensors with audible warnings. A camera at the front detects road signs and displays the speed limit on the dashboard. Radar at the front detects other vehicles and other obstacles, enabling the adaptive cruise control to adjust speed automatically. Sensors detect the lines on the roads and can optionally steer the car to keep in lane.
Other features include automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, auto-folding mirrors and key-less lock/unlocking and driving (just keep the key in your pocket/bag).
A wired connection to Android/Apple both charges the phone and enables the dashboard screen to provide navigation based on traffic conditions instead of using the built in sat-nav, and control media players such as Spotify.
ADDITIONAL ACCESSORIES
There are dealer-supplied thick rubber mats, tailored to fit the car and protect the carpets from mud etc.
Aluminium protection strips on the door sills.
The smartphone connection
The car also includes a toolkit and a space-saver alloy wheel instead of the bottle of temporary puncture sealant provided on the PHEV.
