Description
A beautifully restored example of the last year of the desirable round tail light cars, this 1973 BMW 2002 in Chamonix White is a wonderfully sorted classic that has benefitted from an extensive, detail-driven restoration. Showing just 65,000 miles since new, it retains the purity and character that define early '02 models while offering the mechanical freshness of a carefully rebuilt drivetrain.
Originally taken back to bare metal, the body was mounted on a jig to ensure proper alignment before undergoing a comprehensive restoration. Where replacement was required, original panels were sourced and fitted (most notably the front wings) to maintain authenticity and quality. The result is a body with excellent shut lines with classic appeal that makes Chamonix White such a perfect match for the round-light silhouette.
Under the bonnet, the 2.0-litre inline-four was rebuilt at around 60,000 miles, including the installation of new Tii pistons for a higher-compression setup. This upgrade gives the car a more spirited, responsive feel while remaining true to period character. Since the rebuild, it has covered just 5,000 miles and is described as running exceptionally well.
The interior retains the timeless no-nonsense simplicity of the early 2002 cabin, with its upright glasshouse, slim pillars and excellent visibility. With its documented restoration work, lightly run-in high-compression engine and low mileage, it stands as an exceptionally appealing proposition for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
Registered as a Historic Vehicle, this 2002 Tii is exempt from MOT's, road tax and any high-emission zone levies.
