Description
Unlike more modern Australian and Portugese Mini Mokes, the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate confirms that this is a genuine early English Moke made in Birmingham in January 1965 and despatched to dealers Carlaws of Glasgow in March. First registered 1966. Treated to a ground up, bare metal restoration including Dinitrol Corroheat 4010 treatment over 10 years ago, it was sold at a Bonhams Goodwood Revival Auction and held in a classic car collection by a company that hires period vehicles to the film and TV industry. It has covered less than 1500 miles since. Now in the hands of a private collector, the last 12 months has seen an extensive mechanical refresh, the removal of the engine and subframe and replacement of the steering rack, track rod ends, suspension, shock absorbers, wheel cylinders, rubber bushes, engine mounts, both master cylinders, water pump and radiator. It's 850cc engine runs sweetly, the suspension is tight, the steering is perfect, the original drum brakes are strong and even. It is Tax and MOT exempt and is a wonderful drive. Only the polished bumpers and period 60s Molita wood rimmed wheel change how this would have looked leaving the factory. Both of which are easily changed back if the buyer prefers. During the restoration, the front panel was replaced with a more practical removable grille version. There is an extensive history file with photographs and receipts. The photos, driving and walk around videos have just been taken (July 2024.) It was displayed at this years Mini Cooper Day at Beaulieu and will continue to be driven to car shows on dry days this summer. This is a rare and highly original collectable but usable English Moke. This year is the 60th Anniversary of the Moke and an ideal period vehicle to buy ahead of attending the Goodwood Revival. Private sale. Questions welcome. Viewing in Hampshire.
