The rarest production M convertible ever made the Z3M Roadster S54 is a cracking machine. The first edition of the Z Roadster used the earlier generation S50 engine from its sister car, the E36 M3. Fast as it was, the S50 demanded hard revving to return its reward, and by 2001 lacked the grunt needed to see off BMW's rivals. But it appears BMW ran out of engines before they ran out of shells. So, they installed the brand new S54 3.2 lifted from the newly launched E46 M3 into the last run - with miraculous results. On paper, the difference is a mere 4bhp. In the real world it feels like at least 40. The free revving characteristics remained, but with the power instantly available, throughout the range. Smoother, torquier, more responsive. With its huge tyres bulging obscenely from the wide rear arches, and fat quad exhaust pipes, the Z Roadster finally had the engine to match the design. Although kitted out with a clever M limited slip differential, BMW judged it too wild to be released without traction control - but it can of course be turned off. The sports seats and M cabin trim finish off the look, and leave you begging to drive it. Unfortunately for the world, only 73 of these naughty little two seaters were produced so you won't be disappointed. The engine has been thoroughly refreshed over the years and is running on all horses. The engine bay is the highlight of the car meticulously cared for and restored. The exterior admittedly needs work however rust is only evident on the lower front arches which can be expected for a car of this age. A couple of dents on the doors with the worst one on the boot and the left rear light is cracked. I have the original bonnet with minor dents and scratches and a spare driver's door pictured which is dent free. There is a problem with the fuel gauge acting sporadic but I assume it can only be the sender unit as a new fuel pump was fitted last year. Solid boot floor with no signs of weakness. Factory optional AC SCHNIZTER exhaust, AC roll hoops, AC gear knob and AC drivers pedals. Hard top, Tonneau, BMW cover and wind deflector also come with the car. The soft top is in good condition just some loose stitching around the window but no holes or leaks. 3 keys, Original book, service history, boot tools, compressor and first aid kit. 5 owners, however the last 3 have been in my family.
