When I purchased this car around 5 years ago, I intended to keep it for just a year or two, curious about the hype around Subaru's. However, it exceeded my expectations and I've kept it far longer than planned.
Essentially built on the Impreza platform but without the 'ASBO' image, the Forester XTE is an underrated gem. While I initially considered it a bit of an ugly duckling, over time the looks have grown on me, the reason I have kept it so long though, is its outstanding practicality.
As a family car, it has been perfect for outdoor adventures. The boot easily fits kids bikes, luggage for the weekends away, and more. It's quick, reliable and performs brilliantly in mud, ice or snow, making it ideal for all seasons.
Now, with my children growing up (and their bikes getting bigger), it's time to move onto a larger vehicle. Reluctantly, I'm parting ways with this car, the longest-serving daily driver I've owned.
At 19 years old, the car does have a few minor age-related marks, including some door dings and a dent on the drivers side wing caused by a wheelie bin during recent high winds (see photos). The headlight level warning light is on, the headlights are at the correct level, the warning light is not an MOT failure.
In summary, this is a practical family bus with the performance of a sports car and the capability of an off roader. It's been an integral part of our family life, and I hope it can be the same for its next owner.
