Description
2011 Porsche Boxster 987 Gen 2 - 987.2
I bought this early last year from a car collector in London. My intention was to keep it for at least 5+ years as I have invested a lot of money into maintenance / preventative maintenance. The only reason I'm selling is because I'm relocating with work.
When I was searching for the car, I initially planned to get the 997 (911) But after doing loads of research, I would have been buying a gen 1 997 and all the risk of bore score it brings. I then spotted this Gen 2 987 with the new 2.9 engine and fell in love with the colour and interior spec. The 2.9 engine is very reliable as IMS and bore score issues were engineered out. The 2.9 engine has around the same power as the previous Boxster S.
The insurance and tax and running costs are much better on the 987 and I had a BMW e90 as a daily driver second car so the Boxster was perfect for a weekend car. The front and rear trunk space is great for road trips.
It's a real head turner on the road.
As soon as I bought it I took it to RPM Technik for a full pre purchase inspection(450). This gave me an itemised list of any areas to address.
Work I have carried out during ownership
New Battery
4 x New Michelin Pilot Sport 4's
4 x refurbished / powder coated wheels
New clutch fitted
New front dampers and top mounts
New discs and pads all around
Front coolant crossover pipes replaced (common issue on 997/987 no coolant leaks to worry about for a long time)
The car is mechanically sorted for years to come only needing oil changes/minor service parts. I have addressed everything from the detailed pre-purchase inspection.
The car is categorised as CAT D/N (damaged repairable)
The damage was so minor that no panels were changed. Minor repair on the front bumper underneath. No airbags deployed. I can share the RPM and car vertical reports.
As I have the car mechanically perfect, my next task was to get the rear bumper re-sprayed as it picked up some street parking scrapes. I had a quote from a good body shop of 600 to respray. You could do a magic repair for less, but I like to do things properly so that the bumper would be removed and sprayed in the booth. The parking scrapes are minor, though, and I'm just being pedantic.
Come out for a test drive. This generation of Porsche strikes a beautiful balance of enough modern creature comforts and all the engagement of a 6-speed manual.
