This is a 1981 Porsche 924 Carrera GT and one of just 75 right-hand drive examples. The Carrera GT was created to race at the Le Mans 24 Hour race and, for homologation requirements, Porsche had to produce 400 road-going examples, plus six prototypes. The car has a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged, intercooled engine that produces 210bhp. That equates to a 0-60mph time of 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 150mph. Better than a 911 of the day! The power goes through a five-speed dogleg gearbox and there's a limited slip differential. The Carrera GT was the first production car to feature polyurethane wings to save weight – the car weighs just 1180kg. The distinctive flared wheel arches went on to inspire the lines of the 944. The rare car was offered in Guards Red, Black or Silver. The interior features Sports seats trimmed in black and red pinstripe, and there is the original Panasonic radio/cassette player The boot retains its luggage blind and sunroof bag. This beautifully preserved example has been with the same caring owner since 2008. It is in superb, original condition, inside and out. The front right door was signed by Derek Bell (himself a Carrera GT owner) in 2010. The previous owner exhibited the car at numerous shows and it has been featured in magazine articles. There are folders of material about the car and about the Carrera GT in general. It makes fascinating reading. The history also includes a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity plus invoices showing that the car has been well maintained over the years. Of particular note is an engine rebuild in 2008 at 49,359 miles, and a gearbox rebuild in 2013 at 53,442 miles. We serviced the car last year and it has not been used since. The history goes right back to when the car was supplied new by Porsche dealer Malaya Garage in West Sussex, and the bill of sale is present, and even a letter inviting the would-be owner to consider purchasing this rare new model.
