Description

Middlehurst Road Race & Classic present this fabulously restored, matching numbers 'Series 2 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 manual roadster finished in Opalescent Silver Blue with black leather interior. Chassis number 1R 8136/body number 4R 2228 was first manufactured on 2nd January 1969 and it was dispatched to the USA in left hand drive specification on 23rd January 1969. The car was originally manufactured in Primrose Yellow with black interior and supplied to dealer British Leyland in New York City. After spending almost 20 years of its life in the USA, it was imported from Cob Country (Alabama, Georgia) to the UK in 1988 and subsequently in 1991, fully restored by Streber of Hemyock, Devon. It was subject to a full nut & bolt restoration, the body was stripped to bare metal, treated to anti-corrosion protection and repainted in Opalescent Silver Blue. It was converted from left hand drive to right hand drive. The engine was fully rebuilt with new pistons, camshafts, valves, bearings, oil pump with a new alternator and distributor. The carburettors were converted from the US spec Stromberg's to UK specification SU's. All the suspension was completely overhauled including new shock absorbers and bushes all-round. New radiator and stainless steel exhaust system. The braking system fully overhauled with new brake calipers. On the exterior, new chrome was fitted all over including bumpers, a new black hood, new windscreen and chrome wire wheels. The interior was fully re-trimmed with Connelly hide seats. The total cost of the restoration was £32,000, a huge sum in 1991. Since then, it has been cherished by its subsequent owners who have maintained the car regardless of cost. To this day it presents in virtually flawless condition and really has to be seen and driven to be fully appreciated. We have personally driven this car and it runs and drives absolutely perfectly. Just over 10,000 miles has been covered since the total restoration. If you are looking for a Jaguar E-Type that is on the button and simply ready to jump into and enjoy, this is the car for you.
