Description
Here for sale is my beautiful 2003 BMW E66 745Li, I'm the third owner and bought it in 2011. The original owner had it for 3 years and was chauffeured in and out of London, he then sold it to his Brother from whom I purchased it at 58,000 miles. I used it as a motorway cruiser commuting long distances to and from work, even 5 hours each way up to Aberdeen, and it never let me down, it's still a dream to drive.
I have a large receipt file and spreadsheet that documents every penny spent.
The car is in almost perfect condition and there is no rust, there's minor damage on the lower front valance caused by a hidden tree stump in a grassy work car park!
Maintenance wise, I have a trusted independent BMW guy in Sheffield who has done all the necessary servicing work over the years. I do a lot of minor servicing myself and recently replaced the water pump due to play in the bearing, plus the AC belt tensioner as it was also a little noisy.
I stopped using it regularly in late 2021 as I'd bought another car and this one had developed a minor Mechatronics issue - when I selected Park on the gear selector it threw up an error saying it wasn't in Park when it actually was. I was advised to take it to a gearbox 'specialist' in Sheffield who would replace all the seals in the Mechatronics unit. Unfortunately, when I got the car back, the problem was a whole lot worse and the Mechatronics unit had a mind of its own, plus the car leaked oil all over the drive when I got it home as they'd failed to tighten the sump correctly. I had no intention of allowing them to work on it again so the car has been languishing in my garage whilst I worked out what to do.
A combination of poor weather last year and my work schedule meant that I wasn't able to get it out for a long run to see if it was simply a bedding-in issue with the Mechatronics seals, but last week I took it for a 100 mile run to assess the situation. It drives perfectly during normal driving at motorway speeds, but flooring the throttle using kickdown isn't right and threw up a "Trans Failsafe Prog" on one occasion.
Replacing/refurbishing the Mechatronics unit is totally within my ability but it needs a ramp to carry out the work and I don't have one.
I care about where it goes and will only sell to someone I'm confident will not break it for spares, it is absolutely too good for that.
The car owes me nothing so I'm totally happy to consider any offers.
