Description
I spent a long time looking for the ideal Z4 when I bought this one in 2016. It's been a terrific car, lovely to drive, never let me down, great fun and really well looked after at the same excellent local independent garage for all that time (TWG in Camberley, although as Will has now left the most recent service is CV Auto in Crowthorne, another BMW specialist). It's been maintained to a high standard and wanted for nothing.
Insurance has been comically cheap at around 180 per year and on a decent run it will do 35mpg which is incredible for a 3l engine. It's even ULEZ compliant.
The chap I bought it from was also an Z4 enthusiast, kept it garaged and had done some of the work below already. The bodywork is in great condition for a car of this age.
It has (in my view!) the best combination of the 3l engine with a lovely manual gearbox. The spec is excellent with heated seats, a decent stereo and the steering wheel buttons which really make life easier. I use a Bluetooth FM transmitter for music which I'll include with the car. It also has cruise control and cupholders. Comes with 2 keys.
It's just had a service (2 April 2025), a new battery and 4 brand new Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 tyres (September 2024 but hardly used since). The wheels have been variously refurbed along the way, one has a small amount of lacquer peel (from fitting the new tyres, annoyingly) but mostly they are excellent.
If you are in the market for one of these you will have done your homework on the common issues. This one has had the following work done:
Roof motor replaced and drainage issue solved;
ABS ECU fixed (not if but when these go, same as the 3 series of this era);
Rear suspension springs replaced;
Coil packs replaced;
Brake lines (rear) replaced;
Valve/rocker cover gasket replaced (again, not if but when, the gasket gets old and goes hard, not a big job but good to have it done);
Expansion tank replaced;
Wiper motor cleaned out so they park properly.
So basically everything you would look for. I'm only selling it (very sadly and reluctantly) as we are moving to Central London and can't each have multiple cars any more :(
