Description

Condition 1, SHOW CONDITION, not to be confused with most MGB's on the market, this car had a full nut and bolt rebuild in 2022/23. A brief summary of the work completed is as follows:- Starting with a solid genuine UK car which had been rustproof Ziebarted from new. The car was completely stripped down to the bare body shell. Although the shell was solid and rot free it was nevertheless decided to replace both doors with brand new heritage doors. The body was professionally prepared and resprayed in the original colour if Inca Yellow. Engine sent to specialists for complete rebuild, ie rebore, new pistons, crank reground, new oil pump. New, old stock Unipart Silver Seal, unleaded cylinder head. Gearbox and Overdrive rebuilt by Specialist, ditto back axle. New springs all round, new suspension wishbones, swivels, kingpins, polybushed. New brake discs and callipers, new rear drums and shoes. SU carburettors sent to Burlen Fuel Systems for complete rebuild. Distributor rebuilt by Specialist. High torque starter motor. Radiator recored, new expansion tank. Electronic fuel pump. New fuel tank. All gauges sent to Speedy Cables for complete rebuild, calibration and fitting of magnolia dial faces. Wheels media blasted and painted. Five quality matching Avon tyres fitted and correctly balanced. Laser wheel alignment. Seats professionally upholstered. New carpets. New mohair hood. Expensive, period banjo steering wheel (500). This synopsis of work and components is by no means exhaustive. In excess of 25,000 has been spent on the rebuild, not including the purchase of the car. The later MGB's drive much better than the earlier cars, they sit higher on the suspension making them easier to get in and out and the suspension is better for ground clearance and dealing with today's poor road surfaces. The body on the later cars, such as this one, is stronger and stiffer so scuttle shake is reduced. The later Laycock overdrive was used, active on 3rd and 4th enabling the car to cruise easier at higher speeds, keeping up with modern traffic.
