Description

This highly original UK supplied right hand drive 1972 campervan has only 45,200 miles on the clock. It has always been garaged when not in use, is totally rust free and has never needed any welding or replacement panels; it was repainted externally 10 years ago, keeping the original VW colour. The body is totally original, as is the entire cab interior, including the seats, rubber matting, and door panels. It has its original engine, gearbox, and axle - even the towbar is a VW item fitted from new. The engine has been overhauled with valves and piston rings replaced. It has had new carburettors and electronic ignition. Its first owner kept the van for 37 years and we have owned it for a further 15 years. A brand new bespoke interior has been hand built by our traditional coach building company using birch ply, formica, aluminium, and linoleum flooring; materials reflecting its era. The brief was to create a truly beautiful, useable space with subtle details to provide comfort and elegance to your little home from home. The newly upholstered bench seat opens out into a full-sized double bed and has been sumptuously covered with a hardwearing yet breathable fabric to give the greatest comfort regardless of weather. The Dormobile pop top roof has been especially created with increased windows to maximise light and a feeling of space, whilst also coming with professionally-made curtains to ensure privacy and a good night's sleep. Every element has been considered, from the fully trimmed headlining and elevating roof, the birch ply panelling with handmade window surrounds, the veneered units housing modern appliances and integral dining and storage spaces. There is a refrigerated unit large enough for dining essential as well as being able to accommodate two bottles of wine. There is a pull-out awning which will create shelter and shade as you park up and get ready to enjoy the freedom and camaraderie of the camper van community. This exceptional van was invited to a concourse place both at Volksworld's recent South of England show and at Goodwood's Cartier Style et Luxe; it has not been used in its current freshly-refitted state and awaits new owners to really turn some heads. If you want to be the coolest camper at Latitude, Wilderness or Bestival, or if you simply want the most beautiful quiet weekends off the beaten track, our superb van is ready to drive away now. It may be viewed at our vintage car restoration workshop in East Sussex.
