Description

Classic Classics are very pleased to be able to offer this stunning 1983 BMW 635 CSi for sale. One of the most desirable cars of the Eighties, the BMW E24 6 Series Coupe looked sleek as a missile with its long, low stance and predatory ‘shark-nose’ front end and was a natural rival to the Porsche 928 and the Jagaur XJS. A fitting replacement for the superb E9 3.0 Coupe, it was based on the chassis of the excellent BMW E12 5 Series, widely regarded as the finest handling saloon of its era. A range straight six engines were available from a 180bhp 2.8 to a fabulously smooth and potent fuel injected 218 bhp 3.5 litre which gave the car a top speed of 140mph. All were built beautifully built in the finest BMW tradition with superb performance and handling characteristics and an elegant thin-pillared cabin, luxuriously trimmed inside. GKL420Y was first registered on the 25-03-1983 by LJK Garages in Ilford Essex, who serviced the car regularly until 1988 by which time it had covered 33000 miles. It found a new owner in the Channel Islands and by 1992 had covered 55700 miles, subsequently moving to its last UK owner who lived in Merthyr Tydfil who owned the car for the next 23 years. It was then exported to Ireland where it formed part of the owner’s private collection. Finished in gleaming Alpine White, this BMW 635 CSi has been subject to a full bare metal, windows out re paint 3 years ago and has never been on the road since. All areas of corrosion were either replaced or cut out and plated with new metal resulting in a very solid car throughout now. We have also had the wheels professionally powder coated, and these are wrapped in new tyres. The chrome presents really well also with only very minor pitting to the mirror caps. Upon opening the door to the cabin, you are greeted by the luxurious Black Leather upholstery which is in really good order throughout with only very minor cracking and wear, all switches are present and correct and all fully functioning. One point to note is, unfortunately the sunroof doesn’t operate. Mechanically the BMW 635 is strong
