Description

Good: There is unique and then ultra unique and then there is this car! This car turns heads and get people stopping and asking about it where ever I drive, especially in London. A car designed by Honda as a proof of their technological muscle. The engineers were told make a car remarkably efficient without compromising on cost. I have given an hour presentation about this car to a room full of aerospace engineers as the background behind it is fascinating. Happy to discuss and provide pptx. I personally imported this car from Japan in pristine condition in 2011. It is a rare model as it's CVT (only manual Insights were ever sold in the UK). I have driven it to many countries and it has never had any technical issues whatsoever. It was a passion project for me to improve it's efficiency which I did via a number of routes: aerodynamic improvements, electronic upgrades & weight saving. I have made a carbon fibre parts and also had a number of titanium parts custom made for it. It is one of a few cars in the UK that has cameras instead of mirrors. Super fuel efficient: lifetime 81mpg, UK to Germany round trip 104mpg; best 20 mile trip in the UK in Summer 119mpg. Not sure that even 25 years after this car was made there is an existing petrol car that can beat that mpg! It's a light car and refreshingly small, nippy and easy to park. It has had new tyres all around. Recent CVT/Oil change. A unique, ultra efficient car that is engineering tour de force! Bad: Speed is in Km/hr. Radio not connecting to my phone anymore. May need replacing. Phone charging cable not very powerful. Gives charge but not at a high current. Air-conditioning knob fallen off (will try to get a new one from Honda). Still operable with fingers. As part of the weight saving activities I removed the electric power steering assist and so it requires a bit more strength at very low speed manoeuvring. I like the feel but it is different to modern cars. The car is noisier than modern cars. Many of the mods I made for efficiency / weight saving have somewhat increased the cabin noise. I find it tolerable but worth mentioning. As part of weight saving I removed the air-conditioning system so can get hot on a summer's day without opening the windows. Ugly: needs a paint refresh, especially on the bonnet, grille block and roof. Battery warning light has come on. However I plan to buy a new one and install it as part of the sale. Hybrid batteries normally last 8 years or so.
