Description
It's not abundantly clear why, before the launch of the GT4, Porsche had never let their GT division loose on the Cayman. Sure, there was the Cayman R, but that was throttled back. Perhaps it was to save face, in fear of cannibalising the 911 market, thankfully, today they have gone all in on the Cayman and Boxster.
The GT4 utilises a 3.8-litre flat six, nabbed from the 911 Carrera S, borrowed too from the 911 range, is uprated front suspension and even some downforce. The result is a car beloved by the motoring press and enthusiasts alike, finally, Porsche listened to our cries!
This example is a 2015 Porsche 981 Cayman GT4, supplied new by Porsche Centre Mid-Sussex. It's finished in A1 Black, it's a non-metallic shade that suits the aggressive, purposeful nature of the GT4. The original 20" wheels are finished in satin bronze and are wrapped in a set of ultra-sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres.
The car benefits from being optioned from the factory with the desirable Clubsport package, Sport Chrono pack and of course, the 918 Spyder bucket seats. The carbon-backed buckets are complemented by the matt-black half roll cage and red racing harnesses. It's not all racecar, though, there is alcantara and leather and even Porsche's PCM infotainment system.
Unlike a 911, the engine in a Cayman is in the middle, it's hear that you'll find that aforementioned 3.8-litre flat-six. Producing 380 bhp and 310 lb-ft of torque, it can hustle the little Cayman to 60 in just over 4 seconds. Whilst PDK was an option, this car was specified with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Additionally, in 2020, the car was fitted with full paint protection film by APM Customs at a cost of over 5k.
A Cayman GT4, either in 718 or 981 guise like this one, is arguably the best Porsche in the range. It combines the balance, compact size and good looks of the standard Cayman with the raw capability of any of Porsche's GT range. As at home attacking Snetterton as it is on Sloane Square.
As with all our vehicles, an entire digital folder is available upon request and contains more images, walk-around videos, and scans of the service history. The car can also be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
