Alfa Romeo's highly successful combination of compact cars with imposing performance began with the Giulietta in 1954. In 1962 long after this formula was well established, the Giulia was introduced being one of Alfa Romeo's many and most successful designs produced under the patronage of Dr Orazio Satta Puglia. The Giulia's ultimate incarnation - the Sprint Speciale was almost unrecognisable after the extraordinary work of Carrozzeria Bertone with the SS's curvaceous shape developed in the wind tunnel, and when combined with the 112 bhp version of Alfa's classic twin cam engine it resulted in a notable top speed of 125 mph. The car presents a wonderful harmony between aggressive aerodynamic flair and delicate Italian elegance.
