Description
To save time, I've put what we're actually after for this car. We're not looking to negotiate. Please read everything to ensure you get a balanced overview of the vehicle.
We've had this Alphard for about 8 months. Alphard is running just fine, generally but it needs TLC. We're finding it difficult to find someone willing to work on it and it's more effort than we're willing to put in. It's MOT is due up at the end of May and I do think it'll go through just fine, but I'm not planning to keep it so don't want the investment.
Good:
* Decent service history provided including the replacement refurb hybrid battery and AC compressor it's had fitted.
* Decent gear changes, smooth engine, no knocking etc and good bodywork.
* New (3 or 4 months old now) Bosche starter battery fitted.
* Swivel Middle Seats
* Extremely Comfy Van to drive
* Cruise Control
* Reverse Camera and sensors
* Body work and underneath is in good condition.
* Rear Seats fold up and away.
Videos
I have videos of the engine starting up, and of the side doors operating electronically. I can't post here because of Autotrader's rules. If interested, please text or email me and I'll send the links.
The Bad
* Intermittently get the check engine light come on. When the engine is stopped and started the error clears. I strongly suspect from researching this, that the oxygen sensor might need replacing.
* I think the water pump for the hybrid system might be failing, which is causing the hybrid system to overheat. There have been 2 occasions in the last 8 months where the hybrid system warning light has come on. The van becomes sluggish operating just off the motor but does run. The system kicks back in once the van has been parked for a few hours which is why I think overheating.
* A headlight warning keeps popping up occasionally with arrows next to it. No idea what it is but doesn't seem to affect anything.
Now you've had all the bad listed out too, I hope someone will take this van and spend a bit of TLC on it. I think it will make a wonderful day van, camper conversion or cheap family car. We don't really want it to go but honestly, we aren't competent enough to keep this running as it should be and someone else will appreciate it more.
