Description

Having owned and driven numerous Fiat coupes, I would totally agree with those specialists who say that these (vanishingly rare) early 16v non-turbo cars are a little-known sweet spot in the range. The legendary Aurelio Lampredi twin-cam gives it immense character, and it's tourqey, eager nature and nimble feel sets it apart. I bought this car, a particularly rare 'Chamonix Green' example, in 2020 at 68k miles. It went immediately to coupe specialist Midlands Car Services, with instructions to do whatever was required to get it into good mechanical health, and set it up to be a reliable daily driver. The resulting overhaul cost 4400, but the outcome was a highly dependable and usable classic. The year-by-year breakdown of key work done is as follows: 2020 - Full overhaul at MCS inc. replacement of cambelt, auxiliary belt, exhaust, radiator, clutch master cylinder, all brake lines, brake discs and pads, sunroof mechanism, tank straps, (and more), along with a full service 2021 - Full service (Fiat Coupe specialist) 2022 - Full service (Fiat Coupe specialist) and replacement of both rear brake callipers 2023 - Full Waxoyl treatment, service 2024 - High quality respray of front bumper (due to lacquer peel), welding of three small areas (two on underside, one in wheel arch) for MOT As a result of the regular maintenance, the car remains in fine health mechanically. A summary of its condition is as follows: Good Points: Engine and gearbox very smooth All electrics (including sunroof) working Structure is very solid overall, with no rust visible in the boot (a known weak spot). Underside has just a few small welded areas, but is otherwise unusually sound Very rare cloth interior in excellent condition with no rips or holes Notorious 'sticky dash' attended to Matching Hankook tyres on all 4 wheels with excellent tread Refurbished alloys All 3 keys Fully documented work for last 5 years Not so good points... Although the car generally presents well, the paintwork is not a strong point. Most panels have the odd scuff or dink, and there is evidence of previous cosmetic repairs. The offside rear quarter panel has some bubbling near the base that will need attending to at some point On the whole, this is a rare, characterful and enjoyable daily driver that represents very good value compared to other classics. I shall be very sorry to see it go, but I have another 16v coupe that requires investment!
