The Technical Masterpiece
Beneath the seductive Italian curves of the 156 GTA lies one of Alfa Romeo's finest mechanical achievements the 3. 2L Busso V6. With 250 hp and 300 Nm of torque, this naturally aspirated 60 V6 engine delivers a raw, intoxicating soundtrack and linear power delivery that no turbocharged rival can match. Famously referred to as "il V6 pi bello del mondo" (the most beautiful V6 in the world), the Busso engine is both a visual and auditory feast.

Alfa's engineers widened the front and rear tracks, stiffened the chassis, and revised suspension kinematics to deliver handling worthy of the badge. Optional Selespeed semi-automatic gearbox was available, but the purist's choice remains the tactile 6-speed manual.
A Racing Legacy: The 156 in Competition
The Alfa 156 wasn't just bred for the roadit dominated the track. In the early 2000s, the 156 in Super Touring and Super 2000 specification became a touring car legend:
European Touring Car Championship (ETCC): Alfa Romeo won back-to-back titles in 2001, 2002, and 2003 with the 156 under the N. Technology team.
World Touring Car Championship (WTCC): The 156 competed with distinction in the early WTCC years, battling BMWs and SEATs on equal terms.
Drivers like Gabriele Tarquini and Fabrizio Giovanardi brought home wins and podiums, cementing the 156 as a fearsome competitor on circuits like Monza, Spa, and the Nrburgring.
Although the road-going GTA didn't race in this trim, it shares the DNAengine, chassis, and spiritof those championship-winning cars.
