Description
I'm reluctantly selling my 1983 Porsche 944, which has been my daily driver for the past two and a half years. It's a rare early non-power steering model in Guards Red with the original Fuchs wheels and removable Targa top. The steering wheel is a genuine Momo Montecarlo with a Porsche horn button. Last MOT was in April 2023, and the car is now tax and MOT exempt.
Why am I selling? I'm no mechanic, and the current issues are beyond my abilities, so I'd rather pass it on to someone who knows how to restore it properly.
I bought it in April 2023 as a "usable classic" and got the following work done:
-Replaced both master/slave clutch cylinders (clutch is perfect now)
-Fixed water leaks (re-sealed rubber seals, had a specialist address battery tray area)
-New alternator, battery, rear hatch latches
-Replaced aftermarket cone filter with the original airbox and replaced intake pipe
-New heater blower, tailpipe replaced (still have original tailpipe)
-Two full services
Problems:
-The car started choking and producing white smoke recently, stalling at traffic lights. It's been smooth up until now.
-Some rust appeared last winter, mainly under the doors and in small patches across the car.
-Pop-up headlights stopped working a month ago, and the bumper lights went out a week ago.
-Passenger door latch cable snapped, so the door is stuck shut.
Minor issues:
-Steering column sleeve is worn
-Passenger window switch doesn't work, but the window still works fine
-Rear hatch glass is separating (weatherproof tape has held for 2 years)
-Front seats show wear, especially in the headrests
-Front splitter is bent
-A patch of missing paint on the rear diffuser
I've attempted to be as transparent as possible about the condition. Feel free to reach out with any questions or to arrange a viewing - responses will be in the evenings. The car's been a joy to own, including many trips to and from Scotland and Sommerset, and I hope it finds someone who'll keep it going strong for many more years.
