Description
A rare opportunity for an MG enthusiast to acquire an MG Rover factory development car/ prototype that lead to the MGTF which will only increase in value.
Development cars are normally destroyed or kept by manufacturers themselves but this MGF/TF hybrid was sold by the receivers after the company's demise in April 2005. The car was Lot 74 at the H&H classic auction held on 25th and 26th July 2006 at the Pavillion gardens in Buxton Derbyshire. I have the Auction catalogue and bill of sale to back up the rarity of this car.
BU51 HXK is an MGF 1.6 in Old English White (paint code NNZ) which was supplied to MG Rover Engineering in Birmingham and registered on 13th September 2001, whilst the MGTF model was in the final stages of development before a 2002 launch. It was fitted with an MGTF front bumper, headlights and coil spring suspension. It was the only MGF 1.6 built in Old English White before MGF production ceased and was replaced by the MGTF. This car is the link between the two models and hence very much a collectors car. It has black Rover works wheels too which is different to production cars.
The car is in very good condition, but has the odd marks and scratches as it's a 24 year old car.
Only selling as I had to leave it under cover outside last winter as it lost its garage space and has a couple of small bubble areas, where I think it sweated under the cover. It's an easy small job, but rather than get it sorted on the small front wing panel and sprayed, thought it best to be honest and open about it.
I've owned it since 2017 and used it only in summer and kept the mileage down and is currently showing just over 42,600 It has a new MOT passing in June 25.
The previous owner said it had had a replacement head gasket and had just before i purchased it, a new alternator, stainless coolant pipes. It has also had the cambelt and clutch replaced before I had it.
The car drives well and is an enjoyable, fun experience and is always warmed up prior to driving as recommended by the previous owner on advice from an ex MG Rover employee.
I have changed the seats to some nice burgundy leather ones, but the original cloth ones will come with the car too, as will a hardtop in matching Old English White.
I'm happy to take potential buyers for a test drive, but will require evidence of a fully comprehensive insurance cover before anyone else gets behind the wheel. So, this is a rare opportunity to buy a bit of MG history.
Car is near Grimsby, Lincs.
