This rare model has the hugely powerful and incredibly economical later D5 variant 2.4 litre 5 cylinder Turbo Diesel engine. It is smooth, very quiet and drives really well. The economy and acceleration are made better thanks to the superb 6 speed gear box. The acceleration range of each gear is narrowed to be more efficient and in top gear these things are revving at just 2,900 rpm when doing 90Mph!! In top gear at 60Mph the engine is barely ticking over at 1,900rpm. It will cruise along all day getting superb Mpg figures for a 4X4. The gearbox is easy to operate, and gear change is effortless. The car has covered 135978 miles which is nothing to a modern-day diesel engine. I have the service book with 13 Volvo main dealer servicing stamps which have been carried out at 6PDI, 11k, 20k, 29k, 40k, 52k, 63k, 76k, 91k, 101k, 110k, 119k, 125k and was lastly serviced at 132,424k. At 101k the full belts & water pump were replaced by Volvo. These engines are designed to have 18,000-mile service intervals due to the latest synthetic lubricants used, which makes them very economical to maintain indeed.
