Description
I have owned this Spitfire since April 2021 and have done quite a bit of work on it. I bought it as a partially finished restoration and finished it off.
The car was purchased new by a couple living in Rickmansworth who put 21, 000 miles on the car between 1979 and 2008 (I have the old MOT certificates to show the mileage). The engine was replaced in 2008 and shortly after that the car was taken off the road not driven for 9 years. The previous owner to me acquired the car in 2017 and did a partial renovation including a respray and replacement brake and fuel lines.
I purchased the car in 2021 as a rolling project and have done lot of work on it. Since I have owned it I have done about 2500 miles and the new engine has only done 4500 miles since it was installed.
Work I have completed on the car.
Fully flushed cooling system and new aluminium radiator
New front callipers, pads, and discs
New front wheel bearings
Trunnionless front suspension replacement (removes trunnions which are prone to failure and replaces with a spherical joint)
Fully rebuilt carburettors (including butterfly bearing) with K&N filters
Electronic ignition
New fuel pump
Gas strut bonnet openers
Metal engine guards
New clutch master and slave cylinder with remote bleed nipple
New master brake cylinder
Stainless steel Phoenix exhaust. I still have the original if required in good condition
All tyres replaced in June 2022
Full new interior with new seat foams and Mercedes leather
New door cards and carpets
Full stereo system with amplifier
Refurbished dash and gauges
Partial rewire and replacement blade type fuse box
Replacement halogen headlights with relay adapter.
All rubber bushes and engine mounts replaced with silicon alternatives
Replacement rear drive shafts and bearings
Replacement rear drums, pads, and slave cylinders.
Professionally applied anti rust treatment (dinitrol) 3 years ago focusing inside sills and doors. Some rust spots are coming through but very minor.
The registration was changed in June this year to UEY 727T. The previous registration I have moved to another car. The car does not have overdrive.
It is historic class so does not require Road Tax or an MOT. I did get a voluntary MOT which expires in June 2026.
The hood is original and in good condition, but some of the poppers are broken. It comes with a hood cover and a tonneau cover.
