Description

1968 Austin Mini Cooper MK2 - Hidden Away for 40-50 Years, 7000 Miles, Two Previous Keeper (Originally a Famous Historic Rally Driver), Then His Friend Then Owned Her for 40 + years, Full Nut & Bolt Rebuild, Concourse Underneath, Twin Tanks, Hydrolastic Suspension It was purchased new on the 13th of September 1967 by the infamous rally driver Richard "Dickie" Mayo. Dickie was so well respected for his rallying that the Mayo Stages Rally and Dickie Mayo Memorial Sprint are today both named in tribute to him. The car was involved in an accident with Dick around 1971, after that the car was given to Richard's good friend Alan Want of Bristol Motor club to restore. Alan sat on the car for around 40 years. a full account from Alan was published in a Motoring Magazine along with images of the car. it can be found by googling the VRN. Throughout the forty years Alan carried out a complete nut and bolt restoration, mostly carried out within the last ten years. Her original engine has been rebuilt with an unleaded head and twin carburettors. Most of her mechanical parts are brand new, as is her expensive hydro-lastic suspension (which is lost on most examples and adds so much to the driving experience). She has a new wiring loom and everything works. She is rust free throughout and near concourse underneath and under her carpets. I have a large folder full of receipts for this fantastic car. The car was hand painted around 10 years ago, this is starting to look its age in places. A nice respray would be the treat for this 58 year old beauty! as with cars of this age its MOT exempt although it did have one a couple of years ago and passed. It is historic insurance group (70gbp a year for me). My reason for parting ways is due to not having the space. I have recently moved house and the downsize means I can no longer garage it. it is sitting under a cover on the street which is not what I want for it. Starts on the button and drives fantastic. These cars are only going up in value, this car is one of only 25 left on the UK roads. They don't come up for sale often so don't miss out. OPEN TO SENSIBLE OFFERS.
