Description
This car is the best of both worlds - 480 horsepower / 740 Nm of torque when you want it and comfortable, quiet and economical when you don't - up to 50mpg in Eco Pro mode . It also has no external M badges, spoilers or gills to garner unwanted attention - a sleeper car although not raced / ragged.
The jewel of this car is it's engine, the legendary B58 engine which is regarded as one of the best mass produced 3 litre engines ever made.
In standard spec it achieves 340bhp, then 400bhp simply chipped and 480 bhp in this case with an uprated fuel pump and exhaust downpipe - both non visible changes.
This 'tune' known as 'stage 2+' was carried out by Performance M and is regarded as 'for the long term' and very reliable - nothing has changed other than the torque and power. 1000+ similar tunes now completed on this engine with zero issues up to 100K miles and more.
0 - 60 mph comes up in 3.8 seconds. It should be 3.3 seconds but you'll need to buy a 'limited slip differential' to get all the power down - about 2K including fitting. However it's recommended NOT to use 'launch control' to protect the chassis.
100kph to 200kph (62 to 124mph) comes up in about 8.3 seconds and estimated top speed is 300kph (187mph)
Speedometer is limited to 160mph but heads-up display goes further. It also give engine temp so you know when it's fully warmed up (110c)
You may wish to go even quicker and to do that you replace the current standard turbo and take the car up to 530bhp (stage 3) - but take advice from experts as this is considered close to the comfortable limits of the transmission.
There are 4 driving modes
Eco-pro - drive in 'D' only - shows fuel savings
Comfort mode - Drive in D, S or M - power in 1st / 2nd gears restricted
Sports mode - Down shift is higher, exhaust burble
Sports+ mode - Full power all gears, no traction control
Gears can be changes with up/down on gear knob or paddles. In 'D' and 'S' mode will down change automatically at 1,100 rpm and up-change at 6,500/7,000 rpm. M mode needs up-changing at red line I think.
Unless you're a pro, I recommend you never apply full power below 60mph other than in a straight line and preferably with nothing coming the other way so you are not distracted by your line. Obviously even more caution in poor weather.
A few other bits - stereo, air con & blue tooth are amazing. Drivers seat aside (some wear) upholstery is immaculate - car looks 'young' for it's 2017 plates. Car very quiet in traffic / parking.
