Description
Completed in November 1965, this Porsche 912 was delivered new via Pacifica Cars Northeast in Bedford, USA and first registered in Washington State in 1966. In 1969 the car was registered in Oregon by a local garage and sold to the second owner that same year. Subsequent owners between 1969 and 1991 were all based in Oregon. Its owner from 1991, Barry Carter of Oregon, gave the car as a gift in 1999 to his daughter, Brenda Lee Smith of Idaho, who kept it until 2014.
The first UK owner discovered the car at a garage while on holiday in California; it had seen had seen little use for a few years and needed some restoration. After having the car inspected and confirming that its numbers matched, the vendor purchased it and imported it into the UK in October 2014. Over the next 12-14 months the Porsche underwent a comprehensive restoration and remains in good condition all round.
Other works included an engine overhaul and detailing, new HT leads, new clutch, carburettors rebuilt, European-specification lighting, some re-chroming, overhaul of the braking system, suspension parts replaced, all old and perished rubbers replaced, period steering wheel, new exhaust pipe, and new windscreen washer parts including new nozzles (all bills available). The car retains its original black leatherette interior, wing mirror and antenna, and has been fitted with a period-effect radio with option for an iPod link.
There is folder a couple of inches thick, detailing the parts purchased and work carried out over the years. There are receipts from Bell Classics, Tuthill and Strasse for various maintenance and repairs in recent years. Since being owned by outlander, it has been to Porsche Centre Edinburgh for a health check and new distributor. It also got new spark plugs and a new high torque starter motor with modern relay.
The 912 remains in good excellent condition throughout. There are some stone chips to the bonnet visible on close inspection, as well as the odd chip or mark elsewhere. Otherwise very nice deep black paint and all brightwork very clean and in excellent condition. The interior is likewise very clean and tidy with no damage. The original wheel has been replaced with a Momo prototipo but is available. The wheels are in perfect order with as new tyres.
The structure is all very solid, with no rust or damage noted. The front trunk area is all solid and tidy with just the odd bit of flaking to the paint finish in places.
