Description

Offered here is an exceptionally rare and beautifully preserved 1995 Mercedes-Benz SL280 (R129). What sets this particular car apart is not just its superb condition, but its history it is believed to be one of only six or seven examples from 1995 to boast a full 16-stamp Mercedes-Benz main dealer service record. That makes it an exceptionally rare find even among surviving R129s, and a genuine collector's opportunity. The provenance of this SL is remarkable. It comes with a history file around six inches thick, documenting more than 8,500 of maintenance and care over the years, all carried out with meticulous attention. It benefits from a fresh 12-month MOT with no advisories, allowing the next owner to enjoy it immediately with complete peace of mind. Mechanically, it is one of the tightest, most solid R129s you are likely to encounter. The 2.8-litre straight six is virtually silent at idle, smooth, and pulls strongly a testament to how carefully it has been maintained throughout its life. The oil remains golden between services, and on the road the car drives with the kind of comfort, refinement and poise that defined Mercedes-Benz during this golden era. It truly feels and performs like a much newer car. The interior is equally impressive, featuring oatmeal leather that has been professionally re-connolised to near-new condition. The soft top is in excellent shape with new clear windows, and the car also retains its original removable hard top, supplied in matching body colour. For peace of mind, a known weak point on these cars has been addressed with the fitment of a brand new Mercedes-Benz engine wiring loom, and the car has also received Starguard protection. This SL has led a pampered life. It has been kept indoors for the past 13 years and has not seen rain since 2011. Annual mileage has been minimal typically just 88 to 250 miles per year, usually for MOT trips or short fair-weather runs to keep everything in order. In total, the car has covered only 750 miles in the last six years. Despite this light use, it has proven its reliability on two long continental tours to Monaco in 2008 and 2011, both of which it completed flawlessly. Other features include a 6-CD changer in the boot, a new electric aerial, quality tyres all round, and the car comes complete with a model-specific cherished number plate, valued at 1,500. It also carries an agreed insurance valuation of 18,000, underlining the esteem in which it is held.
