Description
The BYD Seal U 1.5 DM-i Comfort is a spacious, tech-rich plug-in hybrid SUV that seeks to combine electric-range practicality with petrol flexibility, packed into a stylish, family-friendly package.
Powertrain & Efficiency
At its heart is BYD’s DM-i system: a 1.5 litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor, drawing power from a substantial 26.6 kWh “Blade” style battery, enabling a healthy electric-only driving range before the engine kicks in. This “Comfort” version leans toward economy and usability rather than performance. It’s a CVT auto-hybrid, so transitions between electric and petrol happen smoothly, and the drive feels calm and composed.
Exterior & Styling
The styling is modern and distinctive. BYD has adopted what it calls its “Ocean Design” language: flowing lines, a strong presence, and LED lighting that includes U-shaped motifs in the front, and a sleek continuous rear light signature. The Comfort specification comes with 19-inch bi-colour alloy wheels, panoramic glass roof, and generous sizes for an SUV that still aims to feel premium.
Interior & Comfort
Inside, the Seal U Comfort leans into comfort and premium touches:
Spacious rear legroom thanks to a long wheelbase. Multiple adults can sit comfortably in the back.
Seats (front) are heated and ventilated, often with electric adjustment and memory function (for the driver). The upholstery is vegan leather, giving luxury feel without leather.
Infotainment is up to date: a large rotatable touchscreen (≈ 15.6-inch) plus a digital instrument cluster. Wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, head-up display are also part of the mix.
Other comfort touches include a panoramic sunroof, a feature that adds light and a sense of openness to the cabin.
Technology & Safety
Safety and driver assistance are strong points:
Full suite of ADAS features: adaptive/intelligent cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, 360-degree cameras, etc.
Connectivity features like “Hi BYD” voice control, Apple CarPlay / Android Auto, over-the-air software updates.
