Description
- Good condition, powerful and frugal, refined cruiser with involving chassis
- Full service history
- MOT until 20 October 2026
- Sale includes full oil service (7.5l fully synthetic Shell Helix, Bosch filter)
- Heated leather seats, cruise control, parking sensors front and back, usual premium specs
- Ice cold, fully working dual-zone air conditioning and climate control.
- Recent serpentine belt
- Great automatic gearbox with sport/manual mode
- 193bhp, 410Nm, excellent fuel economy
- The best 5 series and the only E39 diesel worth having!
- Bulletproof engine (some might say 'legendary'), they last forever, no usual problems. Great gearbox
- CD player, radio is not the usual failed pixel mess, it's fully readable
- Xenon lights.
Bad points:
- Slight rust on parts of the sill and around rear wheelarch, but not too serious. MOTs didn't mention rust at all.
- Door actuator in rear driver door doesn't work, the part is supplied with the sale, it only needs fitting. The boot may have the same problem and the interior cover was taken off, but the lock/actuator is not fixed yet. My local garage cannot book it in for about a month, but depending on availability, this may be fixed or the new owner may have to fix it
- The adjuster rods in the xenon lights have been replaced (they always break on the E39 b6 this age), but the lights still need adjusting.
- The parking sensors don't currently work, it may be the fuse, will check it.
Viewings and any inspection are welcome in Cardiff or in the Rhondda Valley. I occasionally travel to Bath and Bristol, will be in the area on around 10 November.
Apart from the few minor issues, it is a lovely car and the E39/E46/E38 era is probably the pinnacle for BMW. It is becoming very difficult to find half-decent examples of these. The price reflects the minor issues.
