Description
Summary:
Car owned for 5 years. Used exclusively for weekend driving, max 1000 miles per year. The car has been perfect and I've not had a single problem. All I've done is change the oil and oil filter every year.
Legal:
MOT until Jan.
Reason for sale:
It's a genuinely really clean car and so I wanted to keep it and slowly restore it to new condition. I've finished the underside, but I'm not going to get a chance to do the exterior because I've now gained a child and I have zero free time to work on cars any more. The Mazda now just sits getting un-used.
Modifications:
- Cone air
- Aftermarket exhaust back box(comes with optional bung to make it quiet)
- I've removed some original parts of the engine bay as well as the boot aerial, to make it look cleaner. I have all of these parts and the bolts etc in case the new owner wants to put them back on.
Refurb:
I refurb cars for a hobby and part time business. I decided to treat the car to a full underside refurb in 2024, see build here:
Included in refurb:
- All rust removed from chassis then primed, seam sealed and undersealed.
- I re-built the front chassis arms back to new condition. Common Mx-5 trouble spot.
- All new poly bushes.
- New drop links, ball joints and brake pipes throughout.
Condition:
- All mechanics/electrics working fine.
- Engine cylinder pressures 180-190psi which is correct for 50k miles.
- Overall condition is decent.
- Interior is un-damaged.
- Paint is OK for 27 years old car.
- Paint cracks on plastic mirrors.
- No rust on chassis arms, sills or arches (the usual mx-5 places)
- I believe the car was an insurance write off at some point in its history? The only thing I've noticed is a snapped plastic bracket on the radiator fan, which doesn't affect the running.
History:
I have a book of service receipts here for the car but I've never looked through them.
BAD POINTS:
- Shallow but sizeable dent in drivers door where landlord backed into it. I've been quoted 180 to pull it out but realistically I'll never get around to doing it.
- Plenty of tread on tyres but the rubber is getting old and starting to crack a little on outside faces.
- A plonker put a key thought the roof on right rear creating a 10mm slit. I've done a temporary fix by splattering a load of rubber glue over the hole to keep it water tight. The plan was to remove the glue and have it properly repaired.
- Battery getting a bit weak due to lack of use. Will try to remember to replace.
