Around 130kg was stripped from the standard Trophy through an obsessive weight-saving programme: carbon-composite bonnet with NACA duct, carbon rear diffuser, deletion of rear seats, thinner glass, and a redesigned lightweight rear axle. The four-wheel steering system was also removed – partly for weight, partly because the engineers felt the car worked better without it. What remained was the 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder producing 300bhp and 295lb ft, paired exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox and Torsen limited-slip differential. Öhlins adjustable dampers, Brembo brakes with bi-material discs, and an Akrapovi? titanium exhaust were all standard. Sabelt bucket seats with harness provision completed the package. The result held the Nürburgring lap record for front-wheel-drive production cars at the time of its release. Finding one in this condition is the challenge.
