Description

This car has had 6 previous owners, the last one owned the car for 35 years and during that time it was dry-stored with very little usage. The mileage is believed to be genuine. There are receipts and MOTs going back to 1981 which suggest that is so because the mileage at that time was 37,000 miles. When I purchased the car it was relatively sound but the paintwork and mechanics were in need of renovation as you would expect after being in storage for such a length of time. In consequence the whole of the upper bodywork was taken back to bare metal and repainted in the original shade Bedouin. The underside of the car and suspension wishbones etc were actually in extremely good condition and required no welding whatsoever. Only surface rust was discovered on the inner wings and this was cleaned and painted with good quality paint, Hammerite, as opposed to under seal. The engine and gear box were removed and the engine was stripped down and checked for wear. The crankshaft bearing shells and journals were perfect with no wear. The cylinder head was refurbished with valves ground in with new valve guide oil seals. While the engine was out a new clutch was fitted and the engine bay was cleaned and repainted. The carburettors were completely refurbished with the correct needles and jets. The braking system was in good order and benefits from having been upgraded to a servo-assisted system. The brake pipes and hoses have all been renewed. The whole electric system including the ignition system is in perfect working order. The interior of the car (including new door cards) and the hood are very presentable. All of the chrome work, including re-chromed front and rear bumpers, is immaculate. There are four new tyres, new fuel and water pump, new battery and many new replacement parts such as wiper blades, all of these contributing to a well finished and desirable classic car. Numerous hours and significant funds have been spent on the renovation to make it the car it is today. There is ample photographic evidence of the restoration of both bodywork and engine to demonstrate the work that has been done. The car drives, handles and performs beautifully. A better example of this classic sports car would be very hard to find.
