Description

Remember these? A rare survivor Citroen Saxo VTR and this is a superb original example of one of the original affordable hot hatchbacks. Back in 1997, the Saxo hatchback was a common sight. Launched in 1996, it became a constant presence in the classifieds as a cheap and cheerful way into hot car ownership with the dealers offering free insurance to combat eye watering premiums. Most were the common or garden varieties, there were only two that held attention affection: the VTR and the VTS models. Pocket rockets in the truest sense, and as a newly qualified driver, they couldn’t have seemed more exciting. How does it drive? Tipping the scales at just a shade over 900kg, the VTR could still crack the 0-62mph sprint in 10. 0sec and go on to 120mph. Eager and animated, it feels as though the whole car is egging you on to drive that little bit faster than you thought, allowing you to explore and exploit all of the performance and chassis dynamics encouraging it to be to be thrown into the twisty sections, the sense of speed is far greater than the actual road pace. What’s it got? Character! A fantastic chassis, alloy wheels, body kit and spoilers, front fog lamps, electric windows, power steering, factory glass sunroof, and a sporty exhaust. It has everything it needs and nothing it doesn’t! Why this one? An icon of the modified car scene, to find an original example with low mileage and only two Lady owners from new is rare indeed. Delivered new in December 2001 to Citroen in Rainham kent, the service file contains the original fully stamped up service book and original owners book pack along with hard copy invoices and MOTs to back up the low mileage, both keys, just serviced with a new alternator and MOT. As their number decreases so their price rise's, so get in now the sporty Saxo’s are unlikely to be so affordable for much longer.
