Description
Porsche say that "The limited edition 944 Turbo S is a special street version of the competition 944 Turbo campaigned in the popular European Turbo Cup series races"
These cars were sold with a 10% premium on top of the normal turbo price. Porsche documentation states that the Turbo S top speed is 162mph, compared with 152mph for the normal turbo. My car does not have a sun roof to maximise the rigidity of the bodywork. The Porsche descriptive code for these cars is 758. I have several documents demonstrating that this car is a genuine Turbo S
I bought this car in 2004 and enjoyed driving it for about 6K miles, bringing the total to about 90K. Wanting to keep the car in good order, including replacing a leaking rear crank gasket, I decided to overhaul the engine and have the small amount of body damage corrected.
I was in no hurry, the priority being to do a good job. Simultaneously, I was rebuilding a Mk 1 Cooper S which took a lot of time. Because of other factors, I now realise that, unfortunately, I will not be able to complete the work on this car.
At some time before I bought the car it was involved in an accident which produced a small amount of O/S chassis damage. Lord and Son, a company specialising in chassis work, have straightened the chassis. Both doors close with the correct amount of pressure. The gaps around the O/S door are correct. More work is required around the O/S headlight. A couple of used panels come with the car.
The engine has been stripped down as far as the main bearings and pistons which were left alone on the advice of an expert. The bores are in excellent condition, see the photo. The clutch is hardly worn, the fork bearings were replaced. The clutch plate was aligned using a torque tube. The oil pick up pipe was crack tested and found to be OK. Various gaskets from the Porsche head gasket set were replaced including the rear main seal. The head was tested for flatness by an engineering company. The valves needed only a small amount of work. The cam and balance belts were reinstalled. Several of the auxiliary items need refurbishment. The car has been kept in my dry garage for 21years.
The asking price reflects the rarity of what, surely, is a collectors car
