Description
This is a lovely and very useable Spitfire. Mechanically it is sound and has had useful work done recently.
I think it was stored in the 90s then restored in 2021. I bought it in 2024 as a weekend car. Radiator looks to be new and since I have had it is has had quite a few mechanical improvements. Big ends done, had the trunnionless front suspension upgrade, a new fuel sender, new rear brake cylinders and shoes, had the differential renovated, had a new starter motor and battery. It was last serviced in September 2025. The overdrive works well and it starts easily. Bodywork looks fairly good and paint job is reasonable. Interior is tidy. Hood keeps (most) rain out but the rear quarter plastic windows have both got tears in them.
It drives very nicely and easily keeps up in modern traffic. It is not a show winning car but it is a well sorted car for regular use. It has the twin central exhaust pipes and makes an enjoyable noise, but not too loud.
It is MOT and tax exempt and insurance costs me about 100 per year. Parts are easy to find and inexpensive. It is a cheap to run fun car and gets lots of admiring glances.
