Description
Owned by me since 2015 (3rd owner) and was my main car in 2022-24, lots of mixed use and long motorway runs with no issues. Selling due to baby - no ISOFIX etc means it's just not being used, so time for someone else to enjoy it. MOT is until Nov 2026.
Overall it's in mechanically good condition with relatively low miles for age (never had to top up oil or coolant), but cosmetically to get it looking smart would require a fair bit of work. So either a fun project to restore if you have time and space, or just use as a retro daily driver.
I have the service history 2015-present, and 1989-2006. The gap is 2007-14, previous elderly owner stated it'd been getting serviced but couldn't find any paperwork to prove it... at least it wasn't doing many miles in those years.
Has the injected 16v 2.0 133hp N/A engine with a 3-speed auto gearbox, it's definitely not sporty but suited to relaxed driving and keeps up with modern traffic fine. Unstressed compared to the quicker turbo models and these cars have a reputation for doing big mileages. Stainless steel exhaust fitted in 2020, doesn't have a catalytic converter but was designed for unleaded.
As you'll see from the MOT history, it's had some corrosion and welding repairs. Advisory at most recent MOT and garage said that it's generally OK underneath, but as with most cars this age it will no doubt need a bit more welding at some point. Suspension is a bit tired, drives OK but would be better with some refresh work.
The car looks OK from a distance but it's an unrestored, 36-year old car and the bodywork is pretty scruffy up close. Lots of little surface rust spots and the paintwork is quite tired in places (though white is a more forgiving colour). It had a front end knock at some point (apparently the previous owner hit his own gatepost) which was not-very-well repaired so the bonnet doesn't sit quite straight. Some scuffs on bumpers and wheel trims.
Interior decent condition for its age, original Blaupunkt stereo fitted, and I've even got the cassette tape rack for the centre cubby, great 1980s feel in there. Fairly basic spec but functional and well-laid out as you'd expect from a Saab, and no electric windows, sunroof, or aircon to go wrong! Some typical 900 features - minor cracking on dashboard, and headlining is bubbling so would need doing at some point if you want it to look good. Drivers seat showing some wear, as you'd expect for the age and mileage. Heated seats don't work. Rear ashtray is loose.
