Description

The 2018 Vauxhall Adam 1.2 Energised is a small, stylish three-door petrol hatchback designed primarily as an urban runabout but with enough character and equipment to satisfy everyday driving needs. At its heart is a 1.2-litre normally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine with a displacement of 1,229 cc, producing around 69–70 bhp (51 kW) at approximately 5,600 rpm and 115 Nm of torque at about 4,000 rpm. This power output gives the car a 0-62 mph acceleration of around 14.9 seconds and a top speed limited to around 103 mph, emphasising economy over outright performance. The engine meets Euro 6 emission standards and is paired with a five-speed manual gearbox driving the front wheels. Fuel economy is one of the Adam’s strengths. Official combined figures vary slightly depending on specific measurement methodology but are typically around 50–57.6 mpg (Imperial) combined, with urban economy around ~38–44 mpg and extra-urban figures often approaching mid-60s mpg. CO2 emissions range from about 125–128 g/km, placing the car in a reasonably low tax and insurance bracket, often Insurance Group 2 or 2E in the UK market. The 38-litre fuel tank offers a practical range for everyday use, especially in town and commuter driving. Dimensionally, the Adam is compact and city-friendly: length approximately 3,698 mm, with a width (including mirrors) of roughly 1,966 mm, and a height around 1,484 mm. Its wheelbase of about 2,311 mm helps deliver agile handling in tight traffic and car parks, while still accommodating four seats for passengers. Boot space with the seats up is modest but practical for this class, with luggage capacity around 170 litres and expanding to over 400 litres with the rear seats folded (figures vary slightly by source). Inside, the Energised trim level adds a good level of standard equipment that boosts comfort and convenience. Most examples include the R4.0 IntelliLink infotainment system with touchscreen display, Bluetooth® phone integration and audio streaming, DAB digital radio, and USB connectivity. A multi-function trip computer, rev counter, digital clock, and steering column adjustable for reach and rake add to daily usability. Many vehicles also feature air conditioning, cruise control with a speed limiter function, and City mode for lighter steering at low speeds. Safety is well covered for its class, with six airbags, side impact protection beams, reinforced passenger safety cell, ISOFIX child seat anchors for the rear seats, anti-lock brakes (ABS), and features such as tyre pressure monitoring and a pedal release system. Remote central locking, immobiliser and anti-drill door locks contribute to security. Exterior styling on the Energised often includes 17-inch alloy wheels, body-colour door handles and, on some versions, contrasting roof colours like the Black Jack edition, adding visual flair and personalisation options.
