Description
That’s right — the current owner has spent over £34,000 turning this Elise 160 Sport into something that packs significantly more punch and handles better than it ever did when it left Lotus.
Engine
The VHPD (Very High Performance Derivative) engine, costing £15,600 alone, transforms the car completely. Featuring mechanical tappets in place of hydraulic followers, larger intake and exhaust valves with a ported head, forged pistons, a nitro-carburised crankshaft and high-lift cams, it’s a truly race-bred unit.
The upgrades didn’t stop there. Emerald Motorsport added their ECU with reprogrammed MEMS engine management, while the exhaust system was upgraded to a stepped stainless-steel manifold, de-cat pipes and a Super Sports rear box. To ensure sufficient airflow, a Viper high-flow induction kit was also fitted.
The result is a sharper, more responsive and far more engaging engine that delivers real theatre. With 265bhp per tonne — more than a V8 C63 AMG.
Handling
As impressive as the engine is, it’s the lightweight, razor-sharp feel that truly defines this car. The feedback through the steering wheel and seat is something 99.9% of modern cars simply can’t replicate. This isn’t just Lotus magic — the chassis has been comprehensively upgraded.
Nitron dampers have been fitted all round and set up in a fast-road configuration. Every wishbone was replaced and Xylan-coated along with the ball joints, before the geometry was professionally set to spec. On a B-road the car doesn’t just drive — it dances, flowing effortlessly and rewarding commitment like few cars can.
Stopping
To complete the package, the braking system was overhauled. Front and rear belled discs were fitted alongside Ferodo DS2500 competition brake pads. Braided brake lines were installed and the system finished with Performance Friction 665 fluid, delivering strong, confidence-inspiring stopping power.
Summary
This Elise is like a wasp – light, agile and packing a serious sting when provoked. It’s just you, the car, and the road. Brain, feet and hands working together as the chassis comes alive.
