Description
I have owned the W12 since December 2014 and I had intended to keep it as an investment as there were so few of them made. It had covered 67,000 miles in 2014 and now has completed some 96,000 - the MOT history confirms the limited use.
The car was stored for a number of years but sadly because of the lack of use things started to go wrong. Window lift motors not working as well as the rear sun visor.
I decided it would need to go when it failed the MOT on emissions - the garage advised me that it needs new cagtalytic converters and as this requires the engine to be taken out I decided it is time to say goodbye to it.
The body of the A8's will last almost indefinitely with the space frame aluminium box chassis and aluminium panels it will never rust away.
I have owned the full range of A8's over the years starting with the 2.8, then a couple of 4.2 and finally two W12's.
I am listing the things that I picked up as needing attention as I dont want to waste anyones time. This is not a new car but could be brought back to life if you have the time to carry out the work
defects
* the central console arm rest moves slightly
* the passenger door pocket has a broken plastic hinge
*the ash try closure mechanism does not engage so it remains open
*the rear sun shade does not work
*the rear nearside window does not work
* the DVD remotes have gone missing but you can use the DVD player without them ( with some difficulty)
* the finger print start mode does not work and so you have to use the keys
* the TV does not work as it is not digital
I suspect a number of the above faults are caused by corrosion on the fuses or relays because I did have a window motor that stopped working and it was the relay connection.
I have 3 keys - two full sets and a Valet parking version
I have the complete set of manuals and the service booklet.
It has been maintained by the same garage for the last 10 years and I have had it serviced and repaired on a regular basis.
