In January 2026 the car underwent a comprehensive mechanical overhaul to address known BMW i8-related issues correctly and to ensure long-term reliability. The work was carried out by one of the leading independent German car specialists in the South, with extensive experience of BMW and hybrid drivetrains. The total value of the work carried out was circa 12,000, with full invoices available, and the work is covered by warranty. The work included, but was not limited to: Engine & Timing System! Timing chain, guides, tensioners and sprockets replaced! All relevant single-use BMW stretch bolts replaced during reassembly! VANOS System! VANOS actuators replaced! Associated components inspected and renewed as required! Oil & Lubrication System! Oil control valve replaced after inspection found the internal screen damaged! Cooling System! New water pump fitted! New thermostat fitted! Drivetrain! Both front driveshafts replaced (due to CV boot wear)! Ancillary & Preventative Work! Corroded heat shields replaced while access was available! Engine oil, coolant, spark plugs and associated seals/gaskets replaced as required! Following reassembly, the vehicle underwent full system checks and testing. The engine and hybrid systems are operating correctly with no warning lights or faults present, and the high-voltage battery has been charged!
