Description
Supplied brand new in January of 1959 to a private client in Westerham, Kent this Series II Land Rover remained in the care of its first owner for 20 years where it was then sold to its second private owner who resided in Bromyard, Herefordshire and had the vehicle in their care for a further 21 years then selling it in May 2000 to its third owner who was based in Alton, Ledbury and again had it in long term ownership until August of 2016. These ownership logs are backed by a letter from DVLA Swansea showing all registered owners from new with complementing copies of each owners V5 ownership document which is great for added provenance. The latest owner took delivery in February of 2022 with an invoice from the prior owner having spent over £5,000 recommissioning it for the road which included the replacement of tyres, wiper motors, full exhaust system, shock absorbers, service, seat belts as well as minor welding and the addition of a brand new sand coloured canvas roof with windows. Under the latest ownership a further £3,000 has been spent on a front and rear brake overhaul, the replacement of the fuel pump, ignition coil, spark plugs and HT leads as well as the replacement of the rear output seals, brake master cylinder, axle oil seals, front and rear differential pinion seals and replacement of earth straps.
In its later years it has solely been garaged when not in use and has been used mainly for pub runs in the summer and the occasional winter outing. It starts on the button every time and runs incredibly smoothly.
The bodywork is bronze/green and is showing its age in "patina" fashion, the current owner has explored repainting to lift the bodywork but wanted to keep the car as original as possible. Lots of the missing Series II details are present including the Birmingham badges, galvanised front apron, rotary vent controls, horn stalk, solid steering wheel boss, indicator switch on bulkhead, floor mounted dip switch, gearbox tunnel with pivot panel for dipstick access, short handbrake, 3 bolt tailgate, starter handle on clips behind seats, fairly overdrive, parabolic springs, AVM freewheeling hubs, electronic ignition, smiths heater, heavy rubber mats and 2.25 petrol engine.
