Description
S1 Elise Millenium Edition, Atlantic Blue with 111S wheels.
All standard spec, apart from:
- S2 Bilstein dampers
- Quick-shift gear lever
- 40mm steering wheel spacer
- Larini Clubsport exhaust
- 52mm alloy throttle body
- MG TF135 cams.
Registered on 6 Jan 2000 at the local Lotus dealer in Salisbury, and just as much fun now as it was then.
Owned since 2017 and used it mostly as a road car, with a few holidays to Europe. Naturally, it's been on the odd trackday. From memory: Cadwell and Donnington in the UK, and Ledenon and Mas du Clos in France.
In my ownership it's been well looked after mechanically. I do all my own maintenance work, so there aren't any dealer stamps, but there are receipts to evidence that most of the 'weak' points have been addressed:
- Alloy radiator
- Braided clutch line
- Pressure-relief remote thermostat (PRRT) and silicone hoses
There are lots of recent service items, such as:
- Front tyres (Yoko AD08)
- Rear wheel bearings and drive flanges
- Eliseparts sports cat and downpipe / flexi section
- Rear shocks
- Main cooling pipes in the sill
- Alternator, belt and heat shield (Preventive maintenance, the old one works fine and comes with the car in the box of spares.)
In 2020 I sent the head away to Dave Andrews for hardness testing, peening, skimming and a light porting. While it was there, I took the sales pitch and upgraded to MG TF 135 cams. Along with the 52mm throttle body, it's now usefully quicker at the top end. Really makes you smile.
Cosmetically, it's better than you'd expect for a typical 25-year-old car. But obviously it's not perfect. It's been garaged at-least since 2007 (me and the previous owner), so the paintwork is pretty good. I had it polished and ceramic coated last year, but it obviously has the normal amount of stonechips and minor defects. The trim on the seats is OK, and the sill covers have been recently retrimmed. All in all, very presentable.
I've really loved owning and driving this car. It still puts a massive grin on my face, but life is only so long and there are a lot of other fun things to do.
